A “Bunnings coming soon” sign erected out the front of the Kingsford Smith Business Park last week has had motorists on Wilson Street honking with joy.
Hedland residents have been patiently waiting for construction of the store to begin after Bunnings purchased land from the council almost two years ago. But Bunnings property manager Andrew Marks said there was still some work to be done before construction on the 4700sqm block could commence. “Bunnings is currently still in the early stages of design, however we are eager to get on site as soon as possible,” he said. In keeping with Bunnings’ tradition, Mr Marks confirmed the new store, a first for the Pilbara, would host sausage sizzles to assist community organisations with fundraising.
The $12 million warehouse is expected to open at the end of the year and will feature a main store, timber trade sales area, building materials and landscape supplies year, outdoor nursery and 110-bay carpark.
